YOUTH FOR CONSERVATION
 |
Youth for Conservation was founded in 1998 by young volunteers with a desire to conserve our wildlife heritage for posterity. |
Youth for Conservation Objectives
- Safeguard wildlife by searching for and removing snares that poachers use to injure, maim, and kill animals.
- Initiate and encourage community involvement with wildlife and the environment.
- Campaign for animal welfare through action, information dissemination, and research.
- Promote conservation through educational activities.
- Cultivate and perpetuate interest in wildlife conservation among young people, involving them in conservation activities.
- Encourage a harmonious coexistence between wildlife and humans.
- Protect and restore habitat through forestation and afforestation programs.
Desnaring (Anti- snaring and Poaching Patrols)
Indiscriminate lethal weapons, snares include wires, spikes, dug pits, and sisal ropes. To minimize poaching for domestic consumption and illegal commercial trade in bush meat, Youth for Conservation, in conjunction with Kenya Wildlife Service, conducts desnaring, anti-poaching patrols and community environmental education programs and initiates sustainable alternatives among the communities. Youth for Conservation and partners, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the Bill Woodley Mount Kenya Trust (supported by the Born Free Foundation, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and others), have confiscated more than 40,000 wire snares in Kenyaís parks, reserves, and private lands.
A nongovernmental organization, Youth for Conservation is duly registered as an independent body under the provisions of the Nongovernmental Organizations Act, 1990, section 3 (10) of the laws of Kenya (Charity Number: OP.218/052/2002/0311/2355).To enquire about membership, donations, and further information, please contact Josphat or Steve at:
