Visit a local community, and see the real Africa.
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi
A uniformed Old Line Safari Company representative meets you on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transports you to Nairobi's Serena hotel, a family friendly establishment, where your room awaits you. For the rest of the day, you may relax and catch up with the time zone or opt to visit the Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen Museum (made famous in the film Out of Africa) at no extra charge.(D)
Days 2 and 3: Maasai Mara National Reserve
The day begins with a pre-safari briefing from your safari guide. At 10:00 A.M., you board your flight to the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve and, for 45 minutes, wing your way west over the dramatic Great Rift Valley. You'll spend two nights at Keekorok lodge, with the night sounds of the game and the fresh scent of the earth, grass, and bush around you. The ritual becomes addictive: early morning game drives to watch the waking plains, then back to the camp for lunch followed by a siesta. Explore the Kids Club, swim or sunbathe, or write in your journal before tea and a late-afternoon guided walk or drive. (B, L, D)
Day 4: Naivasha
At the crack of dawn, you may take to the skies, if you choose, in a hot air balloon for a spectacular "hawk's eye view" of the game-studded plains, providing a memorable experience of the fabled Mara. After breakfast, you drive to the serene Malu, a private reserve nestled in an ancient Cedar forest with sweeping views over the Great Rift Valley. At Malu, many out door adventures awaits us; we can choose to engage in casual, informative, walk with resident naturalists, cycling and game drives in open topped land rovers. Dinner and overnight at the exclusive Malu (B, L, D)
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park
We wake up to a sumptuous breakfast before leaving for a two-hour drive that gets us to Lake Nakuru where we have the chance to see the greatest bird spectacle in the world. A million or so flamingoes, beside pelicans and cormorants make Lake Nakuru a bird lover's paradise. A game drive through the various habitats of the park will certainly reveal why the park earned its status as a RAMSAR site as well as one of the best performing Rhino sanctuaries in Africa. Picnic lunch at the baboon cliff with a panoramic view of the lake. Overnight Malu (B, L, D)
Day 6: Naivasha
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon we could opt for a boat ride in the nearby Lake Naivasha. The only fresh water Rift Valley lake in Kenya, we undertake a memorable hippo cruise spiced with bird watching opportunities. Dinner and overnight in Malu (B, L, D)
Day 7 Mount Kenya National Park
Today, you drive up the Great Rift Valley escarpment through the rich agricultural area in central Kenya to the Serena Mountain Lodge at the base of snow-capped Mount Kenya. Unwind and enjoy the fresh ambience of the dense rainforest that comes alive at dusk with myriad sounds, making the African bush so special and exhilarating. From the comfort of a specially constructed bunker, you can view an amazing parade of wildlife to the lodge waterhole, where elephants, Cape buffalos, rhinoceroses, and waterbucks are regular visitors. (B, L, D)
Days 8 and 9 Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
A 45-minute drive brings you to one of Kenya's major private conservation successes, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, where you'll enjoy two full days and nights of viewing elephants, rhinoceroses, leopards, and lions as well as unique northern species, such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, long-necked gerenuk, and vervet monkey. Lewa Safari Camp is your base for numerous activities, such as bird walks, escorted bush walks, horseback and camelback game-viewing, cultural visits to local communities, swimming, tennis, and jogging. (B, L, D)
Day 10 Departure
Take the morning to indulge in a farewell bird walk or game drive, get in some last-minute game-viewing on horseback or camelback, or just update your journal as you replay in your mind the events of the past 10 days. After lunch, you must say goodbye to the camp staff and board your flight back to Nairobi. Afternoon shopping at Utamaduni Crafts Centre precedes a farewell dinner; then, it's time to transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your departing international flight. (B, L, D)
