COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS

The Old Line Safari Company offers a unique opportunity for students and other organized groups to enjoy experiential training immersed in the magnificent, contrasting scenery, the wild flora and fauna, of Kenya and Tanzania. Students interact with the people who live side-by-side with wildlife, conduct research on local concerns, forge work opportunities, and pursue academic programs—all while still having fun. These programs are tailored to meet the needs of partner institutions and are backed by experienced, distinguished facilitators from local institutions.

Experience a wide range of environmental and social conditions in Kenya and Tanzania, two of the most beautiful, interesting, and diverse countries in the world:

  • Meet people working in community development, wildlife management, and environmental conservation.
  • Take part in active research by institutions in East Africa.
  • Work in small groups with dedicated teachers and professionals from local institutions.
  • Conduct your own research projects in natural science, social science, or interdisciplinary areas.
  • Visit some of the most remarkable archeological sites in the world.
  • View wildlife in some of the world’s premier conservation areas.

Travel from the shores of Lake Victoria to the reefs of the Indian Ocean and from the flanks of snow-peaked Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro to the torrid base of the Rift Valley. Meet Kenyans and Tanzanians in their homes, offices, markets, villages, and cities. And, do it all while traveling in comfort and security, with Flying Doctors’ Society of Africa (FDSA) providing 24/7 medical evacuation services in the unlikely event of a health emergency.

We have established working relationships with Moi University, which has continued to emerge as a key research institution in Africa, and Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI). Moi University offers courses in natural resource management and environmental, medical, and social sciences. KMFRI, on the other hand, undertakes research in marine and freshwater fisheries; aquatic sciences; biological, chemical, and physical oceanography; limnology; pollution; aquaculture; natural products; and marine geology.

Most of our research stations are located in remote rural areas teeming with wildlife, where the cultural dimensions and economic development can be discussed. Because these local research bases enjoy a strong association with the surrounding communities, we can ensure that students have safe, informed, and sustained access to the East Africa landscape, which means they can engage in real, field-based, research projects.

For the last two years, we have been privileged to arrange summer programs in Kenya and Tanzania for Western Kentucky University students. See Journey to Kenya for their travel journal, and Contact Us today to start planning a study program customized for your college or university.
